Instead, he argues that tennis has evolved, becoming faster, more physical, and, in his opinion, better.
During the Big Three's dominance, Zverev made his mark when these legendary players were at their peaks, winning a total of 66 Grand Slam titles between them. It was a challenging time for any player to break through, with only a select few managing to claim major titles outside of the Big Three's grasp. Juan Martin del Potro, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, and Marin Cilic were among those who managed to secure Grand Slam victories during this era.
However, Zverev believes that the sport has evolved and become more accessible to a new generation of players. He points out that, while the Big Three dominated specific Grand Slams, with Djokovic ruling Australia, Nadal claiming Roland Garros, and Federer and Djokovic battling it out at Wimbledon, the door was eventually opened for others to compete and win.
"It's a fascinating shift," Zverev observes. "Back then, the Slams were almost predetermined. But now, we've seen a new era emerge, with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner taking charge and winning four Grand Slams each in the past two years."
Zverev's perspective offers a unique insight into the changing landscape of tennis. He highlights how the surfaces have become more similar, allowing players to excel on any court, a stark contrast to the past when certain players dominated specific surfaces.
