Google's Fitbit Coach, a Gemini-powered personal health assistant, is now accessible to a broader audience. The feature, previously exclusive to Android users in the US, has expanded to iOS users and five new international markets: the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. This expansion marks a significant step in Google's long-term health strategy, as Fitbit Coach becomes available to Fitbit Premium subscribers, offering a comprehensive health advisory service.
The app's redesign introduces four core tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health, with a new 'Ask Coach' button for natural-language queries. Fitbit Coach goes beyond static charts, acting as a real-time health advisor. During the onboarding process, users share their fitness goals, injuries, and gym equipment, allowing the AI to create personalized training plans. For instance, if sleep quality is poor, the system suggests lower-intensity recovery sessions.
This update also includes long-term trend analysis, comparing a user's sleep quality to similar demographics and explaining the impact of lifestyle factors on rest. Users can now ask questions like, 'How did my weekend run affect my recovery?' or 'Can you build a marathon plan based on my current pace?'.
To access the preview, users need an active Premium subscription and a modern Fitbit or Pixel Watch, including the latest Pixel Watch 4. This expansion challenges Apple's upcoming AI-powered health focus, as Google believes in the Gemini model's accuracy for a global rollout.
