Netflix is about to turn up the heat with an exciting new documentary focusing on the iconic band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, slated for release on March 20.
Directed by Ben Feldman, known for his work on "Bug Out" and "Rich & Shameless," this film titled "The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers" delves into the raw and formative years of the legendary Los Angeles rock group. It particularly highlights the impact of their original guitarist, Hillel Slovak, who tragically passed away in 1988. The documentary features candid interviews with current band members Flea and Anthony Kiedis, along with those who were close to Slovak. They share insights into the band's evolution during their early days and reminisce about the profound friendships that shaped their lives.
Audiences can expect a unique and personal look at the powerhouse behind memorable hits such as "Under the Bridge" and "Californication." Having maintained a career that spans over four decades, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have established themselves as one of the highest-selling bands of all time, with record sales exceeding 120 million globally.
Produced by Asta Entertainment, Submarine Entertainment, and Polygram Entertainment, "The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers" was initially showcased in a secret screening at the Cannes Film Festival last year as it was discreetly marketed to potential buyers. Following this, the documentary held exclusive screenings in both Los Angeles and New York before ultimately landing a deal with Netflix.
In a statement, Feldman expressed his excitement about collaborating with Netflix, stating, "It’s a true honor to partner with Netflix to bring ‘The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ to a global audience. At its core, this is a deeply relatable narrative—one that explores the friendships that shape our identities and the enduring strength of bonds formed in youth. What makes it less relatable, perhaps, is that these friends went on to create one of the greatest rock bands in history. I am incredibly grateful to the band and to Hillel’s family for their trust and generosity, and to Netflix for helping to present this story on the world stage."
The production team also includes Marc D’Agostino as a producer and John Tarquinio as the editor, with executive producers Dan Braun, Josh Braun, David Blackman, James Slovak, and Feldman himself contributing to the film's creation.
